The Lure of Spring 22 February, 2010
Yes, it‘s a month from Spring emerging. Yet when it gets 60 degrees outside, like it was this weekend, with the sun shining and the birds singing you just want to scream with pure joy. Seasonal Affective Disorder, winter depression, affects so many of us. I know this is a challenge for me each year. So when we get the hope of the sun and warmth this weekend, our entire life can change. Just think, we had Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent last Wednesday, a prelude to Spring, Easter and Passover, and two 60 degree days. I began planning what was going to be in the garden, asking where my shorts are, wondering if I needed a new bathing suit this year, and yes, wondering how I will look in that bathing suit after a winter of loving lots of warm foods, especially the warm brownies out of the oven. Where are our bright, happy Spring clothes and shoes? Whew, sick of this gloom and ready to get on with HOPE, energy, the sun, being with people and getting outside with all these farm animals. So lets hold hands, and smile because HOPE has arrived. We are almost seeing forsythia, daffodils and tulips.
